[ Even though her throat is audibly clogged with tears, she doesn't sound unhappy exactly. Just the opposite -- and when she looks back up at Ardyn, even through the tears streaming down her face, she's wearing an utterly radiant smile. ]
With, with everything that's going on, you all went to so much trouble just for me and I don't-- you're all idiots.
[ Hope, faith, love, and luck, strangers on the run wishing her a happy birthday, the former scourge of Eos standing outside her door with a birthday cake and a smile and Yuuri shouldn't have any of this. It's not that she doesn't deserve it -- far from it. After everything that's happened in the past two years, Yuuri thinks she deserves happiness and normalcy more than anything. But it shouldn't be hers. She lost that chance the instant the first infectee staggered into Megurigaoka Private Academy and any hope of a happy future rotted away with the rest of the world.
But here, on a planet she should never have seen let alone set foot on, she's found it. Here, somehow, in this messed up, thrown-together history in the aftermath of a killing game, like sunlight finding its way through a crack in an overcast sky, she's found something that makes her truly happy she's still alive.
Yuuri doesn't even bother waiting long enough to give him an answer before she steps forward, throws her arms around him and chokes out a noise that's half a sob, half a laugh. ]
Of course I'm alright! Why-- why wouldn't I be when I have my whole family spoiling me rotten on my birthday? [ her twentieth birthday, the one she was never supposed to see because she'd be starved or eaten or infected long before then-- ] I love you. I love all of you so much.
[Ardyn was blatantly caught off guard, unsure if he'd done something to upset her until she actually spoke; he very nearly fell over at the sudden shift, but managed to stay upright and put his arms around Yuuri in return.]
...You know that we love you too. I am ever grateful to have you with us, and I want you to have all the happiness you more than deserve.
[ But she's laughing even as she says it and pulls back just enough to dab at her eyes. She's beaming at him, her face bright even through her tears -- which don't seem to be going anywhere despite her attempts to wipe them away. ]
I went and made this so dramatic didn't I? [ a hiccupy laugh ] I'm sorry!
Right! Should we have something to drink as well? I'm sure there's some tea left somewhere but after yesterday we might just be clean out...
[ She falls into step with him as they go, still doing her best to dab at her eyes. Yesterday morning was a bad enough first impression -- she doesn't want any of their new arrivals to see her all teary-eyed too. ]
God, that's nearly thirty of us now. I can barely believe it.
I might still have a bit left in reserve, I'll have to check. Either way, that certainly was a rather unexpected surprise. I was entirely prepared to start making a cake once we got back, but running into Caulfield and Fukawa rather derailed things somewhat.
...Frankly, I'm just relieved Noctis didn't fight me in the parking lot.
...Admittedly, it was a little closer than I'd have liked it to be. If none of them had watched our season at all, I've no doubt I'd at least have a well-deserved black eye right about now.
Horses aren't spiracorns! I promise, one of the first things I'm going to do when all this is over is get you face-to-face with a real horse and then you won't have any choice but to admit we were telling the truth the whole time.
I'm not sure I'll be able to handle it. Between chocobos and spiracons I'm shuddering to think what other kinds of nonsense animals are running around on Eos.
We've been over catoblepas, and clearly you don't have malboros if you think spiracorn are strange. Which also likely counts out cactuars, mandrakes, and treants.
[is he counting off on his fingers while also rolling his eyes, ardyn why are you like this.]
In fact I'm willing to assume all the larger animal life we have is nonexistent, since combat ability doesn't sound common in your world. That counts out behemoths, Midgarsormr, and likely even dualhorns.
It makes you wonder what the turning point was... how exactly did Eos end up like it did, and not more like Earth? Especially when you consider all the similarities.
I'm sure people would be clamouring to study this kind of thing if they knew it was possible.

[The cake momentarily disappeared into the Armiger, Ardyn dropping to one knee to be closer to Yuuri's eye level.]
I-I don't-...I think I've missed something here, are you alright?

[He pressed a light kiss to Yuuri's head before straightening up, gesturing for her to follow him.]
Come on. It'd be a shame if this cake went to waste hidden in the Armiger.

...Honestly, I'm less surprised that Noctis didn't and more surprised that no one else stepped up to do it for him.

I swear on my life, we're going to Lucis for even one day just so I can find a spiracorn and show all of you I'm not the crazy one here.

I have to wonder exactly what happened to your world to make it produce... things like that.
[ She hasn't even seen any of them yet and she already knows Lucian fauna is bullshit. ]

[mature, ardyn.]
Nothing happened, it's always been like that. Even before the Starscourge, as far as I know.
